A very pleasant place to stay

We stayed in apartment Lile, which is the top floor apartment within House Kirigin. It is a very nice apartment with two double bedrooms, which seems to be rare to find in Dubrovnik. The apartment was a good size and very clean and there was also a good sized terrace with table and chairs for our use as well. The family that own the house live there too, so there were always people around to ensure all was well and to answer any questions we had. We arrived in the evening and were greeted with a cold beer to welcome us. Free parking for the hire car was about 5 minutes walk away, and the old town was about 20 minutes walk. House Kirigin is on the south side of the old town in a residential area, so you need to go into the old town, or out the other side to find all the bars and restaurants. When you are in the (very nice) old town, there are masses of restaurants, cafés and bars to choose from, and we found that some of the smaller restaurants up the side streets had much more interesting food choices. We had a hire car so were able to travel around quite a bit and drove into Montenegro for a day trip, although we didn't like it nearly as much as Croatia. Bosnia is also a very short distance away, but we ran out of time to go there. The boat trips to the Elephite Islands are well worth doing. We went at the end of May/early June and the temperature was a very pleasant 25/26 degrees with a sea breeze - which was ideal. We found Dubrovnik a lovely place to visit, relatively unspoilt tourist wise, wonderful scenery, but sadly there are still a lot of reminders of the recent war (1991-92) such as bombed out hotels. The people were very friendly and pretty much everyone spoke English. The country is very pretty and clean and definitely to be recommended. There's not a huge amount for children to do there, but for a relaxing escape from life, its ideal. Apartment Lile is an ideal apartment for friends to stay in, and House Kirigin overall was very nice.

We arrived in Dubrovnik on a spring afternoon and after a short while we found House Kirigin. We were met with a warm welcome and quickly shown our room which was spacious and clean with a lovely view across to the old town. We were given home made orange juice and cake and started to relax straight away. We found the family most friendly and they made every effort to assist with any information we required and even run us into town one evening.
The location is ideal for visiting Dubrovnik and only a 15 minute walk from the old town.
We would recommend House Kirigin as a good base to visit Croatia and would not think twice about returning.
